Scandinavian Literature, Emergence of Realism and Poetic Realism

Realism made only slow headway in spite of the example of the Finno-Swedish poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (see below). Literature of the 1840s and 1850s was mainly an aftermath of Romanticism.
